The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Erik Thedéen vice-president, for a term of two and a half years, with immediate effect.
Thedéen is the Managing Director of Swedish Finansinspektionen (FI), the supervisory authority for the banking, insurance and securities sectors in Sweden.
Thedéen will replace Anneli Tuominen, who has completed her two-and-a-half-year tenure in the role. Tuominen is the Managing Director of the Finnish Finanssivalvonta, the financial regulator of the Finnish government.
Thedéen has held this position at the IF since 2015. He is also a voting member of the European Systemic Risk Board and chair of the working group on sustainable finance for the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
The appointment of Thedéen follows the news of Hiring Verena Ross as ESMA President in October.
Commenting on Thedéen’s nomination, Ross said: “I am pleased to announce the nomination of Erik Thedéen as Vice-President of ESMA. As a member of the Board of Directors since January 2018, he has demonstrated his commitment to ESMA through his active participation in our supervisory work. He brings a wealth of national and international experience to this role, and I look forward to working with him.
She adds: “I want to take the opportunity to thank Anneli Tuominen for her work over the years, and in particular for the key role she has played as Interim President this year.
