Santander appoints ESG heads of wealth and asset management units

Santander Wealth Management & Insurance has appointed Laura Blanco as Head of ESG Strategy.

She will lead the dedicated ESG unit the company created last year to support the group’s environmental and corporate governance efforts.

Blanco brings over 20 years of experience and most recently worked as Director of Knowledge and Outreach for Impact Investing at the Spanish National Advisory Council in London.

She began her career as an analyst at UBS in New York before joining Credit Suisse in 2003.

Meanwhile, Ana Rivero, who was most recently head of product and market intelligence and head of ESG at Satander, has been named director of sustainable investing.

Augusto Caro, who joins Santander Asset Management as Caixabank’s Global Head of ESG, will also report to Santander AM’s Global CIO, José Mazoy.

Prior to joining Caixabank, Caro held several senior positions within the investment team of Bankia AM, where he also chaired its sustainability committee.

Santander Wealth Management & Insurance is targeting €100 billion in sustainable assets by 2025 and has so far raised €27 billion in private banking and its fund management units.

The group also seeks to raise or facilitate €120 billion in green finance by 2025 and €220 billion by 2030.

As part of its broader goals, the company also plans to reduce its exposure to thermal coal mining to zero by 2030.
