Ponakovs becomes a PokerStars Titan; Banks $108,000


The 2022 World Online Poker Championship (WCOOP) may be all but done and dusted off, with only rescheduled main events awaiting the crowning of their champion, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t huge prizes doled out at PokerStars. The weekend produced some fantastic scores, including the $107,963 Alekseys “APonakov” Ponakovs was rocked when he triumphed in the $5,200 Titans event.

A compact but stellar field of 77 players bought in the $5,200 Titans Event and fought for a slice of the $400,000 prize pool. Only the top nine won a prize, so save yourself for “P0KERPR02.0” who fell to tenth place and was the last player to return home empty-handed.

The nine surviving players pocketed at least $12,470 for their efforts. Here, Ponakovs and Pablo “pabritz” Brito Silva horns locked in a clash for the lion’s share of the prize pool. Ponakovs was the last man standing when the dust settled, and he used a score of $107,963, leaving Silva to collect a consolation prize of $80,864.

Both days $530 Bounty Builder High Roller tournament is always packed with online poker superstars, and this week’s edition was no different. A group of 651 players battled it out for a prize pool of $325,500, and it was Mario “t4t0PAGAU” Navarro who claimed the biggest slice of the pie, namely $69,584.

Only 22 of the 651 starters made it through to Day 2, and they were quickly whittled down to the final table of nine. Navarro had to deal with people like Patrick “thebigdog09” Brooks, Benjamin “BC1989RF” Chalotand Vlad “dariepoker” Darie, but emerged unscathed from these battles. He faced Brazil “GUNDIAS” heads-up and did some light work on it, winning a bounty payout of $20,574 on top of the top prize of $24,584. GUNDIAS saw $33,879 flow into his PokerStars account.

Peru has a Sunday Million champion

from Peru “xXROMmMEOXx” is the latest in a long line of PokerStars players who can call themselves a sunday million champion. The Peruvian came out on top of a field of 9,844 players in the PKO edition of the Sunday Million and took home $86,748 from the $1,000,000 prize pool.

Eighty-four players qualified for Day 2, including Matas “bebamis777” Cimboles and Daniel “dani aziz” Aziz. Each of these 84 returnees can be immensely proud of their performance, but the night belonged to xXROMmMEOXx. They beat Ireland “murphfish” heads-up as the clock stopped at 10.29pm BST on October 3, for a haul of $86,748, leaving the Irish grinder to score $57,484.
