Leaders of Citibank’s Digital Assets Group have quit to start a new crypto company

Citibank’s co-heads of digital assets, Alex Kriete and Greg Girasole, are leaving to create an as-yet-unspecified new venture in the blockchain-enabled digital asset space.

Kriete held several positions at Citibank in its private banking business, starting as an analyst in February 2011.

Girasole worked at Citi for seven years and was previously a fiduciary investment analyst at JP Morgan.

The digital assets group within Citi’s wealth management division was only created in June 2021, with Kriete and Girasole named co-heads.

Writing on LinkedIn, Girasole says, “It was at Citi that my passion for digital assets began, culminating in the opportunity to lead efforts to integrate this new asset class into their Global Wealth franchise. I am proud of the foundations we have laid and will encourage their future success.

The couple say they will share details of the new venture in the coming weeks when their gardening leave ends.

Kriete adds, “Over five years ago, my personal interest and subsequent writing on blockchain (yes, ‘crypto’) enabled digital assets led to an incredible network of colleagues at Citi businesses, outside companies and interested customers, and at this time I will take on a new professional challenge by creating a new business in this space.
