Ocala, Fla. – The $30,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome Prize was the headline event Thursday at the World Equestrian Center – Ocala as 50 international partnerships of horses and riders representing 14 nations competed on a complex track built by the FEI Level III course designer Peter Grant (BOX). The very last competitor to qualify for the play-off, Jad Dana (LBN) and After Eight of Springhill Farm 1850, LLC (Diarado x Coco) stepped on the throttle to steal the win.

Of the 50 starting combinations, 17 pairs successfully answered the first-round track questions to qualify for the play-off. The short course proved to be a challenge as only seven achieved a double clear.

One of the doubles was secured early on by Aaron Vale (USA) and Cristo Beech of Thinkslikeahorse (Its The Business x Ragua). Vale and the 11-year-old Warmblood gelding clocked a very fast jump-off in 34.382 seconds to set the pace for the rest of the class.

Against Vale’s fastest time, Santiago Lambre (BRA) and his own 13-year-old Zangersheide gelding Cetano Van Aspergem Z (Clinton x Altamira Z) navigated the twisty course effortlessly to take the lead in 34.040 seconds.

Jad Dana and the 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare were the last to start. “After Eight is owned by Amy Hauk and Scott Dehm of Springhill Farm 1850, LLC,” he said. “My trainer, Leslie Howard showed the mare last year, but she had hip replacement surgery, so I had the privilege of riding the mare for a while. It ended up being a partnership amazing, so I kept riding it thanks to Amy and Scott.

Dana knew she was chasing a very fast runner. “You had to be quick on every step to beat the rest, so I started strategically and grabbed the first fence on an angle so I could land a right. Then I just tried to stay at a canter, until I had to take the inside turn back and forth. After getting out of doubles without fail, I made a nice vertical seven then I tried to go as fast as possible until the last oxer and it paid off!

Dana and After Eight flew over the finish, stopping the clock at 33.299 seconds to earn the duo their first class win at the World Equestrian Center – Ocala.

“We love it here! Everyone is so accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. The horses love the boxes, the rides and they all thrive on the atmosphere. Everything is so wonderful, and we are so happy to have a world-class place like this at your fingertips,” remarked Dana.
