BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) has appointed Mike Nikou as Managing Director and Head of Distribution for Asia-Pacific, effective September 15. He succeeds Steven Billiet, who continued to lead the company for Asia-Pacific after being named head of the global client group in August last year.
Nikou will work from the Singapore office following his appointment before relocating to Hong Kong. He reports to Steven Billiet, now based in Paris, and Paul Yang, head of BNP Paribas Asia-Pacific.
Nikou will build on the company’s accomplishments and ensure consistency with the strategy developed during Billiet’s tenure as Asia Pacific CEO. This includes building BNPP AM’s capacity in sustainable investing while deepening the commercial traction of the business in the region; and lead the company’s distribution activities by developing and managing the implementation of its wholesale and institutional strategy for the region. He will also focus on expanding the firm’s business and presence in China, which remains a key market for BNPP AM and the BNP Paribas Group.
Nikou has over 30 years of experience in financial services and asset management, including over 20 years in senior management positions at Fidelity International. During his tenure at Fidelity, he successfully developed business strategies for the retail and institutional segments across multiple countries and regions, including Asia-Pacific. He was most recently a Global Partner at Antler (Singapore), a global venture capital firm that invests in early-stage technology companies.
He holds a degree from the Institute of Insurance in Sweden, affiliated with the Stockholm School of Economics, and a degree in business marketing and economics from the Frans Shartaus Business Institute in Sweden.
