Applications Available for Harold Jackson Scholarship to Study Marine Insurance in London

The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM), part of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University, is currently accepting applications for the 2022 Harold Jackson Fellowship for the ocean marine study. insurance in London, England.

Established under the will of the late Harold Jackson, former chairman of Wm. H. McGee & Company, Inc., the scholarship includes round-trip transport to London, accommodation costs for a stay of up to two weeks, payment of tuition and fees for the study program to be determined by the scholarship recipient, and a personal allowance for miscellaneous living expenses.

The scholarship is awarded based on passing the AMIM® 121 exam, prepared and scored by The Institutes™, and a completed application and written report of no more than 1,000 words on the topic in three following parties, submitted before May 31, 2022:

  1. Briefly describe the difference in coverage in the following policies:

    Boat dealer versus marina operator
    Commercial yacht versus personal yacht
    Freight Owner vs Freight Liability

  2. There are several types of deductibles an underwriter can apply to a commercial hull policy. List and define in detail three types of franchises.
  3. Reinsurance continues to play a vital role in maintaining and supporting US market capacity. In your opinion, what are the top three factors a reinsurer should consider when deciding to support a marine insurance program/cedent?

GSRM was founded in 1901 as the Insurance Society of New York and decades later became The College of Insurance (TCI). In June 2001, TCI merged with St. John’s University, becoming a school within the Peter J. Tobin College of Business.

St. John’s grants undergraduate, MBA, and master’s degrees in the disciplines of insurance, risk management, and actuarial science.
